FIRST LEVEL OF FIRST AID : Perform Basic Life Support and First Aid Procedures

Leaners will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of emergency scene management and treat common injuries.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of elementary anatomy and physiology.
  • Assess an emergency situation and apply First Aid procedures in the emergency situation.

Purpose of Course:

Assess the emergency situation and providing basic Life Support and Basic First Aid in order to stabilize patients prior to transfer to the emergency services.

Accreditation:

This course is an HWSETA Accredited course and is based on SAQA Unit Standard Number 119567.

Entry Requirements:

Proficiency in English and Math Literacy.

Content of the Course:

  • Emergency scene management and safety
  • Principles of breathing
  • CPR – one man, two man CPR, CPR on minors and babies
  • Choking – adults, children, minors and babies
  • Bleeding – internal and external bleeding
  • Fractures – open and closed fractures
  • Burns – hot burns and chemical burns
  • Shock
